Tiana accepts the Peoples Choice Award at the Great Eagle Auction

On April 6 at the BC Lions Society’s Great Eagle Auction I was awarded the Peoples Choice Award. This came as a total surprise to me as there are 134 other painted eagles by extremely talented artists.  But I can’t take all the credit. This award is shared with the students at James Whiteside Elementary in Richmond who drew ideas that I then painted onto the eagle. I chose 302 of them and tried to paint as close to each child’s style as possible.

A big thank you to everyone who voted for our eagle “It’s Our World”.  Without your support this project, and this award, would not have been possible. This is wonderful encouragement for my artistic career, and James Whiteside’s budding artists.

I know the economy is tough right now (at the live auction Eagles went for between $3000 and $11500. This is down from the Spirit Bear and Orca auctions where some went for $30,000 up to $50,000.) but pass the word around to people who do have $ to spend on some art. It goes to a great charity. Calculating all the hours I spent over 4 months, plus the time the children took to draw the feather ideas, I believe our Eagle to be worth at least $12,000! I would love to see it donated to some place like a hospital, or James Whiteside Elementary, for permanent display so that many people can enjoy this colourful, playful sculpture. Place your bids at until April 11.
